Local Deputy Calls for Accountability in Urban Development

Blanca Benítez Estrada, president of the Public Information and Accountability Commission, demands transparency in the Paseo 5 de febrero project due to financial concerns.

Local Deputy Calls for Accountability in Urban Development

The local deputy of Morena, Blanca Benítez Estrada, who presides over the commission of Access to Public Information and Accountability, has requested the appearance of the heads of the Superior State Audit Office and the Ministry of Urban Development and Public Works. Her goal is to obtain answers for both legislators and citizens. Benítez Estrada expressed her concern about the lack of detailed information in the 2023 public accounts report regarding the Paseo 5 de Febrero project.

In the report presented to the LXI local Legislature, the deputy found that the information provided was insufficient regarding the damage to the treasury and cost overruns of the project, as well as the actions taken to address the delays. She was critical of the apparent lack of comprehensive oversight of a project that exceeds 7 billion pesos, considering that only 56% of the resources allocated to the project were audited.

Deputy Benítez Estrada emphasized that beyond a political agenda, her priority is transparency in the management of public resources. She highlighted the importance of providing detailed explanations not only to government representatives but also to citizens, especially in light of the complaints received about the distribution of resources for projects in different areas, such as the mountains, where the allocation of funds for specific works is questioned. The deputy plans to formally present the document next Monday to advance accountability and clarify the pending issues surrounding the Paseo 5 de Febrero project.
