Lawyer Denies Rumors of Treviño Morales' Extradition

Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales's lawyer quickly denied rumors about his possible extradition. Juan Manuel Delgado stated that eleven judges have determined that his client is not 'El Z40', the leader of 'Los Zetas', as was initially believed. Treviño Morales has been in preventive prison for 11 years without a conviction.

The rumor about the possible extradition of Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales and his brother Alejandro Omar Treviño Morales from Mexico to the United States began circulating on February 27, 2025. However, sources close to the former confirmed that there is no extradition agreement between the two countries. The Secretariat of the Interior of Mexico is also unaware if this extradition has occurred.

Los Zetas, one of the most violent criminal organizations in Mexico, emerged in the late 1990s when Osiel Cárdenas Guillén recruited elite soldiers from the Mexican Army. Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales, known as 'Z40', and his brother Omar were the most feared leaders of the organization, using terror tactics such as torture and indiscriminate killings.

Despite the rumors, Treviño Morales's lawyer assured that there is no ongoing extradition process. There is no court order to transfer his client to the United States. Treviño Morales was arrested in 2013, while his brother was detained in 2015. The lawyer also highlighted that there are amparo trials that prevent extradition.

The lawyer stated that, despite the Attorney General identifying a 'Z40' with the same name, physical evidence and testimonies from protected witnesses have shown that his client does not match the wanted criminal leader.
