The Boss Released After Three Years in Custody

Rosalinda González Valencia, wife of CJNG leader, has been freed after three years in prison. Her release is contested by the authorities but upheld by the court.

The Boss Released After Three Years in Custody

Rosalinda González Valencia, known as ‘La Jefa’ and wife of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias ‘El Mencho’, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was released on the night of Thursday, February 27. After being detained for three years at the Federal Social Reintegration Center (CEFERESO) number 16 in Morelos, González Valencia obtained her freedom.

González Valencia's release came after Judge Perla Fabiola Ayala Estrada ordered her release at the end of January, determining that she had served more than half of her sentence and due to her good behavior in prison. Despite the challenge to this decision by the Attorney General's Office (FGR), a collegiate court upheld González Valencia's release.

Rosalinda González Valencia faced charges of organized crime and money laundering in May 2018, but she was released from prison that same year after paying bail and committing to regularly report to authorities. However, in 2021, she was arrested again for violating court orders during a National Guard operation.

González Valencia's defense succeeded in having her exonerated from the charge of organized crime, and in December 2023, she was sentenced to five years in prison for operations with resources of illicit origin. During her participation in the CJNG, ‘La Jefa’ was actively involved in the trafficking of synthetic drugs to the United States.
