Detention of CJNG Leader's Brother in Jalisco

A day after the extradition of Rafael Caro Quintero and the delivery of 28 high-level drug traffickers to the United States, Mexican authorities dealt another blow to organized crime with the arrest of a brother of 'Mencho', founder of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

The arrest of Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, alias 'Don Rodo', brother of Nemesio Osegeura Cervantes, leader of the CJNG, was reported on the afternoon of Friday, February 28, in the municipality of Tonayán, Jalisco, by members of the National Guard. 'Don Rodo' was released from prison in April 2024 after it was determined that there was insufficient evidence to corroborate his involvement in the crimes he was charged with. The arrest had taken place on April 21 of last year in Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco.

A day after his release, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) announced in a statement that it would appeal against those who allegedly helped Oseguera Cervantes obtain his freedom from the maximum-security prison, Almoloya de Juárez. The FGR argued that the release of 'Don Rodo' is a demonstration of the constant partial and inconsistent criteria of judicial authorities.

Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'Don Rodo', was pointed out as one of the main logistical, financial operators and violence generators of the Jalisco Cartel in Jalisco, engaged in money laundering, as well as trafficking and selling drugs for the criminal organization. At the same time, the FGR accused him of illegal possession of firearms and crimes against health, for which he was arrested in flagrante without a warrant against him.
