
The latest surveys in Mexico reveal that, although the negative perception remains predominant overall, there have been some significant improvements regarding citizens' opinions on various aspects of the government. In the fight against corruption, opinions have remained stable, with minimal variations in the last month. In January, positive opinions were at 71% and negative at 18%.
Regarding public safety, there has been a positive change, with favorable opinions increasing from 44% to 52%, while negative ones decreased from 45% to 40%. For the first time, positive opinions surpass negative ones in this evaluation of the government. Concerning the fight against organized crime, positive opinions have also risen, from 25% to 30% in the last month.
Andrés Manuel López Obrador is the only official who has recorded a high approval rating, at 83% in the February 2019 survey. Regarding power in Mexico, 49% believe President Sheinbaum holds more power, followed by 26% who mention organized crime and 11% who name former President López Obrador.
Although perceptions of Sheinbaum's relationship with Trump remain mostly negative (45%), there has been an improvement, with an increase from 31% to 38% of those who view a favorable relationship between the two leaders. Sheinbaum's management concerning policies like deportations and tariffs has been positively rated by the majority of respondents.
In February, citizen approval of Claudia Sheinbaum was at 85%, the highest approval rate in the last three decades. The evaluated areas of her government, such as economic management, received a positive rating of 76%.
The study was conducted through a national telephone survey of 800 adult Mexicans and shows a complex picture of opinions and perceptions on various aspects of the governmental administration.
