The former governor of Michoacán, Silvano Aureoles Conejo, is under investigation due to the overpriced purchase of seven police barracks during his administration. According to the State Controller, Azucena Marín, these properties were acquired with an expenditure of between 5 billion and 6,468 million pesos in the managements of 2016 and 2017.

"We undertook to investigate all those acquisitions, all those services, everything that, in contrast with the facilities and in contrast to what was imposed that the elements inhabiting those barracks would have, did not find luxurious and well-protected spaces of high range and the patent was not what had been acquired," Marín explained.

After a series of audits, in February 2024, the Attorney General's Office provisionally secured the seven questioned properties. Subsequently, in November of that same year, damages were repaired for 970 million pesos in favor of the state government. In February 2025, the case was judicialized for crimes such as embezzlement, fraudulent administration, and organized crime, with arrest warrants issued against several former public servants, including former secretaries and administrative delegates.

It is highlighted that one of the barracks had a significantly higher cost than its real value, reaching 980 million pesos, five times its estimated value. Governor Ramírez Bedolla confirmed that the FGR continues investigations to locate Silvano Aureoles and execute the arrest warrant against him, as he is currently a fugitive.

Furthermore, irregularities in the management of resources during Aureoles' last year in office were also identified, according to the Financial Intelligence Unit and the Superior Audit of the Federation. The investigation into these corruption events has been ongoing, and collaboration with various agencies has been undertaken to clarify the situation.

In summary, the case of the police barracks acquired at an inflated price during the previous administration in Michoacán has triggered a series of investigations that have led to the judicialization of the case and the issuance of arrest warrants against several former officials implicated in alleged crimes.
