The Tlalpan City Hall has implemented various measures to improve road safety and the quality of life for its residents. Among the actions to be carried out is the review of the taxi shuttle operation at the intersection of Insurgentes and Tlalpan, in collaboration with the Undersecretary of Traffic Control. Also, a permanent guard has been maintained at the pedestrian bridge of El Caminero since February 5 to reinforce security in a high-traffic area.
These actions are coordinated among different entities such as the Directorate of Legal and Government Affairs, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), and the Directorate of Security, with the aim of ensuring safe and accessible mobility for all, including pedestrians, cyclists, and people with disabilities in Tlalpan.
Amid these efforts, a corruption complaint has arisen, pointing to a former official of the Tlalpan City Hall, Alta González, for promoting the uncontrolled growth of informal commerce in La Joya. In response, a comprehensive operation has been announced to reorganize commerce in the area, prioritizing the improvement of mobility, the recovery of public space, and universal accessibility.
The measures include the review of permits, the removal of irregular stalls, and the guarantee of key pedestrian access. The process began on March 3 with the verification of permits in established businesses on Insurgentes Sur in both directions, and will continue on March 10 with the removal of unauthorized street vendors and the clearing of ramps for people with disabilities.
The conflict escalated when Edgar Hernández, former director of Urban Services Projects and Programs, allegedly threatened City Hall personnel with a knife while trying to remove illegal stalls in the area. These events reflect the existing tension among informal merchants, former officials, and local authorities seeking to establish a safer and more orderly environment for the Tlalpan community.
With all these measures and actions, the Tlalpan City Hall reiterates its commitment to combating corruption, regulating commerce, and ensuring a safe and accessible public space for all citizens.
