Guanajuato Strengthens Fight Against Fuel Theft

The governor of Guanajuato has emphasized the importance of addressing not only the seizure of stolen fuel but also the capture of those responsible as a fundamental measure to combat hydrocarbon theft. Although the pipeline in question is not specifically located in Guanajuato, it has been highlighted that the problem persists in the region and it is necessary to identify and stop those involved in these illegal activities.

It has been pointed out that fuel theft in Guanajuato is not an isolated phenomenon but rather part of the operations of organized crime in various areas of the country, becoming a source of income for criminal groups. Authorities are also focusing on the illegal sale of fuel at gas stations as part of ongoing investigations.

To combat fuel theft in Guanajuato, the state government has implemented a strategy that includes operations at key points with detected illegal connections, coordination with Pemex Logística to control the diversion of fuel, investigations into the involvement of criminal groups in the extraction and illegal sale of hydrocarbons, arrests of alleged perpetrators, and surveillance at service stations to detect irregularities in gasoline distribution.

In recent months, 16 illegal connections in Pemex pipelines in Guanajuato have been identified, raising concerns about the magnitude of the crime in the state. Governor Libia García has confirmed that surveillance in the area has been intensified, with joint operations between the State, the National Guard, and Pemex Logística to combat these illegal activities, especially in areas such as Lajabajío and Pénjamo.

García has expressed concern about the volumetric diversion of the pipelines, which continues to be a problem despite the efforts made. In this regard, the important coordinated efforts among authorities to reduce this crime affecting various regions of the state have been underscored.
