FIFA Investigates Multiproperty Controversy in Liga MX

FIFA has restarted its investigation into multiple ownership in Liga MX, focusing on Grupo Pachuca, which controls the teams Pachuca and León. This situation has again placed Grupo Pachuca and its president, Jesús Martínez, in the middle of a controversy involving business, broadcasting rights, and legal conflicts.

According to Fox Sports Mexico, the matches of Pachuca and León were removed from Tubi, Fox Corporation's streaming platform, due to a lawsuit filed by the company. This was a consequence of an alleged violation by Grupo Pachuca of a contract that granted priority to renew broadcasting rights, which had been ignored when negotiating directly with Fox Corporation. As a result, a judge has ordered the suspension of broadcasts on Tubi until the litigation is resolved.

On the other hand, FIFA's regulations prohibit a single entity from controlling more than one club in international competitions, such as the Club World Cup 2025, which could affect the participation of Pachuca and León. This case has gained particular relevance due to the involvement of Carlos Martínez, a representative of Fox Corporation and a former executive mentioned in the FIFAGate scandal for bribery in obtaining broadcasting rights. His ties to Jesús Martínez and the manner in which the negotiations for the new contracts were conducted have raised doubts about possible irregular practices in Mexican football.

With FIFA closely monitoring the issue of multiple ownership and a legal dispute that has interrupted the broadcasts of matches, Grupo Pachuca is in one of its most critical moments. The outcome of these conflicts could have significant repercussions on the rules of the game in Liga MX and the participation of Mexican clubs in international competitions.
