
The National Conference of Governors (Conago) expressed its support for President Claudia Sheinbaum and voiced its opposition to President Trump's decision to impose tariffs on Mexico. The governors, mostly affiliated with Morena, called for national unity and to keep open channels of dialogue and negotiation to address the implications of this measure.
In a public statement, political leaders such as Luisa María Alcalde from Morena and Jorge Álvarez Máynez from MC supported Sheinbaum in response to the imposition of tariffs. They emphasized the importance of national unity in these decisive moments and criticized Trump's violation of national sovereignty.
In the Senate of the Republic, a majority position against the tariffs was approved, labeling them as interference disguised as economic sanctions. Legislators from different political parties condemned Trump's decision, arguing that it goes against the T-MEC and other international treaties.
On the other hand, PAN Senator Ricardo Anaya expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of consultation with the opposition and called for backing Sheinbaum's stance without hesitation. The willingness to mobilize in support of demonstrations in the Zócalo scheduled for Sunday, March 9, was also mentioned.
Within the Chamber of Deputies, leaders such as Sergio Gutiérrez and Ivonne Ortega supported Sheinbaum's decision to respond to the tariffs with measures in defense of national sovereignty. It was emphasized that the President's stance is brave and firm, reminding the need for unity and firmness in times of affront.
