Debate on Child Support Payments in Mexico

The discussion in the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation regarding the seizure of Afore accounts has generated controversy in relation to the payment of child support to minors. The First Chamber of the SCJN is analyzing whether it is constitutional to seize Afore accounts in cases of child support debt. It is questioned whether the resources of the retirement subaccount, unemployment in old age, and old age can be seized to protect the best interests of the child. In another financial area, the Tax Administration Service (SAT), led by Antonio Martínez, is working to curb tax evasion in gasoline sales, which represents 30% of the fuels sold at gas stations. According to an analysis by the PETROIntelligence consultancy, tax evasion is estimated to have prevented tax revenues amounting to 177 billion 170 million pesos in 2024. The Federal Government seeks to combat this issue to reduce fuel prices. On the other hand, the insurer AXA, led by Daniel Bandle, paid more than 30 billion pesos to its policyholders for cases in the Auto, Property, Health, and Life sectors. The largest payout was made in the Major Medical Expenses sector. AXA managed to maintain its financial solvency and retain nearly 6 million clients. In the energy sector, Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), under the direction of Víctor Rodríguez Padilla, has implemented a Work Plan for 2025-2030 and a new Law that contemplates the elimination of subsidiaries to streamline its finances. Pemex's financial debt has decreased and is expected to continue improving through financial schemes. Furthermore, Pemex's production stabilized at 1.6 million barrels per day starting in December of last year. In summary, these financial and economic issues in Mexico are generating debate and actions to protect the interests of the involved sectors and improve the economic and fiscal situation of the country.
