The national leader of the PRI, Alejandro 'Alito' Moreno Cárdenas, has called on former PRI members to return to the party. In response to this request, Senator Manlio Fabio Beltrones Rivera has expressed that the return of former members would only be possible if Moreno Cárdenas resigns from the party leadership. Beltrones believes that the main problem of the PRI lies in the reelection that the current leader has self-granted for several years.
"I believe that the opening and new phase of the party will be when it opens to a different, more plural, and more authentic leadership," Beltrones stated. The senator, who now declares himself as an independent legislator, criticized Moreno's reelection, describing himself as anti-reelectionist and advocating for a party that maintains those fundamental principles.
On the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the PRI, Moreno Cárdenas called on former members to reintegrate into the political institution. In a prior interview before a Senate session, the party leader pointed out that while the door is open for the return of former members, this process would be conditioned on respecting the unity and membership of the party.
When asked specifically about Manlio Fabio Beltrones Rivera, Moreno Cárdenas assured that the doors of the PRI are open to those with differing thoughts but emphasized the importance of valuing loyalty to the party. He also stressed the need to have companions willing to confront the current government, characterized by its cynicism and corruption, rather than seeking superficial agreements with other political forces.
In this context, Beltrones reiterated his critical stance towards the reelection of Moreno Cárdenas and advocated for a change in the leadership of the PRI that reflects greater authenticity and plurality in the party.
