During an emotional session in the Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña remembered his grandmother, María de la Luz Velázquez Villalobos, highlighting her struggle and overcoming despite the difficulties she faced throughout her life. Noroña shared the story of his grandmother, who managed to complete elementary school despite the adversities.

In a story interrupted by emotion, Noroña recounted how his grandmother had to face an abusive and violent marriage, being mistreated by her husband. After divorcing in a time when it was frowned upon, María de la Luz found herself needing to support her three children, Daniel, Rosa María, and Rebeca Noroña Velázquez, working as a seamstress to provide for her family.

The senator became so moved remembering the story of his grandmother that, at the end of his speech, he couldn't hold back the tears, being consoled by his fellow Morena colleagues. Lucía Trasviña, Verónica Camino, and Imelda Castro approached to show him their support during this emotional moment.

Concluding his account, Noroña honored the memory of his grandmother María de la Luz Velázquez Villalobos while receiving applause from those present in the session. On the other hand, in a context of economic and political tensions, a salary increase for Mexican senators was announced, largely aligning their income with that of President Claudia Sheinbaum. This salary adjustment raised the monthly stipend of legislators to 131,700 pesos, bringing them closer to the president’s salary.
