Rescheduled Hearing for El Z-40 in Washington

The first hearing of the leader of Los Zetas, Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales, also known as El Z-40, has been postponed until March 14. The presentation of the drug trafficker in a Washington court was scheduled for March 6 but has been rescheduled. El Z-40 will share the session with his brother, Omar Treviño Morales, El Z-42. Both are accused in the United States of drug trafficking and conspiracy to murder high-ranking U.S. officials.

If found guilty, the leaders of Los Zetas could face anything from life imprisonment to the death penalty, as they have no type of protection related to an extradition process. Miguel Ángel and his brother Omar Treviño Morales, the 'Z-42', are considered the most brutal kingpins of the criminal organization Los Zetas, which is the armed wing of the Gulf Cartel. They are known for their brutality and violence against their rivals.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, both brothers took control of Los Zetas in 2012, after more than a decade as members of the violent drug trafficking organization. On the other hand, Rafael Caro Quintero, a kingpin of the now-defunct Guadalajara Cartel, and the leaders of Los Zetas, Miguel Ángel and Omar Treviño Morales, are among the 29 drug traffickers extradited by Mexico to the United States on February 27.

Mexican authorities carried out the transfer of these individuals, considered an unprecedented event within the framework of international cooperation agreements, to different cities in the United States such as Chicago, Houston, McKinney (Texas), New York, Phoenix, San Antonio, Washington, and White Plains (New York).
