The National Electoral Institute (INE) approved a cap of 220,326.20 pesos as campaign expenses for candidates for judges in the 2024-2025 Extraordinary Electoral Process of the Federal Judiciary (PEEPJF). According to Article 96 of the Political Constitution, candidates in this process cannot receive public or private funding, so they must finance their expenses with their own resources.
The president councilor of the INE, Guadalupe Taddei, explained that since this is an electoral process with unique characteristics, it is necessary to establish expenditure caps that adapt to the specific needs of the election. For her part, electoral councilor Carla Humphrey indicated that the expenditure cap includes personal expenses, per diems, and transportation that allow candidates to have autonomy over their resources without exceeding it, thus avoiding inequity.
Additionally, the INE approved the Electoral Geographic Framework for the Extraordinary Electoral Process of the Judiciary 2024-2025 in seven entities: Aguascalientes, Baja California, Coahuila, Mexico City, State of Mexico, Michoacán, and Sonora. This framework defines the territorial zones where the extraordinary election will take place on Sunday, June 1, 2025, with the aim of ensuring that the vote is cast under equal circumstances for the entire electorate and thus protect their fundamental rights.
Finally, during the session, reports were received on vacancies in the Local Councils and their occupancy, in compliance with agreements for the Extraordinary Electoral Process of the Federal Judiciary 2024-2025, as well as on the procedure for the accreditation of citizens interested in participating as electoral observers in this process.
