INE Approves Guidelines for Judicial Election Voting

The INE has approved guidelines for counting votes in the extraordinary judicial election on June 1, 2025. Results will be announced by June 10, ensuring transparency and legality in the process.


INE Approves Guidelines for Judicial Election Voting

The National Electoral Institute (INE) approved the guidelines for the vote counting of the judiciary election on June 1 and established that the results will be announced no later than June 10. During an extraordinary session of the INE General Council, the Guidelines for the preparation and development of the counts of the Extraordinary Electoral Process of the Federal Judiciary (PEEPJF) 2024-2025 were approved, as well as the design and printing of the corresponding electoral documentation.

Jorge MontaƱo, president of the temporary commission for this contest, mentioned that it is a structured procedure aimed at providing legality and certainty to the voting results. For her part, Norma de la Cruz, a member of the commission, highlighted that the citizens will be responsible for counting the votes through district councils made up of citizens.

The counting process will be carried out with integrity and professionalism, starting on the night of the election to obtain results as soon as possible. It was emphasized that this judicial election is unique and requires adaptations in the vote counting process to ensure transparency and impartiality.

In the same session, a spending cap of 220,326 pesos was approved for all candidacies in the judicial election. Additionally, the publication and dissemination of the list of candidates for magistracies of the Judicial Discipline Tribunal (TDJ) within the framework of the electoral process was ordered.

On June 1, 2025, Mexicans will have the opportunity to renew 386 judge positions and 464 magistracies, as well as to reduce the SCJN from 11 to 9 members in this historic and unprecedented election in Mexico.
