The son of one of the founders and leaders of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Rubén Oseguera González, known as 'El Menchito', is facing sentencing in a District Court in Washington this Friday. In a recent context, Mexico handed over 29 Mexican drug traffickers to the United States, including three members of the CJNG, among them 'El Dictador', 'Tony Montana', and 'Compa Playa'.
'El Menchito' could face a sentence of up to 40 years in prison or even two life sentences, along with a demand for $12,599,026 for drug trafficking. The charges against him include conspiracy to traffic cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as illegal possession of firearms related to criminal activities.
The trial of 'El Menchito' is overseen by Beryl A. Howell, who is also in charge of the cases of his sister 'La Negra' and his uncle 'El Tony Montana'. After his extradition to the U.S. in 2020, he was convicted in September 2024 for leading violent actions of the CJNG to expand its influence and traffic dangerous drugs like fentanyl in the United States.
Among the crimes attributed to 'El Menchito' are multiple murders, including the homicide of debtors and the manipulation of traffickers to produce fentanyl. During his leadership in the CJNG from 2007 to 2017, he is credited with the deaths of over 100 people and other criminal acts, such as the downing of a Navy helicopter. Additionally, he is accused of corrupting Mexican authorities to facilitate the cartel's operations.
