Claudia Sheinbaum Defends Mexico's Sovereignty Amid Tariff Rumors

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, spoke out about rumors suggesting that negotiations between her country and the United States included a request to hand over a Mexican politician linked to drug trafficking. However, Sheinbaum categorically denied this possibility, stating that such matters are not the competence of the Mexican government but of the Attorney General's Office.

In a press conference, the president pointed out: "If there is an agreement, this issue is being tacitly acknowledged." She also clarified that the decision made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding tariffs will no longer be conditioned by the issue of fentanyl and Mexican cartels.

Sheinbaum received the support of Andrés Manuel López Obrador and emphasized that cooperation is based on mutual respect and the sovereignty of each country. The leader expressed confidence that the reached agreement demonstrates recognition from the United States towards Mexico.

Additionally, the topic of uncertainty in the Mexican business sector was addressed, to which Sheinbaum indicated that this issue depends on Trump's decisions. Although there are external pressures, Sheinbaum reiterated that Mexico will continue to work in coordination with the United States on security matters.

Finally, the president expressed that, given the uncertainty, it is necessary to wait and not get ahead of events. In response to insinuations about Mexican politicians linked to drug trafficking, Sheinbaum urged that any investigation be conducted through the appropriate prosecutors, recalling the case of former Secretary of Security, Genaro García Luna, who is currently detained in the United States.
