The Government of Mexico has announced that some states of the Republic will have to adjust their clocks in 2025, despite the fact that daylight saving time was eliminated across the country in 2022, with the exception of the 33 municipalities of the northern border strip and the states of Sonora and Quintana Roo. Among them are Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas.
The new law establishes that in Mexico, with four time zones, a standard time will be maintained according to the corresponding time zones. A seasonal time will only be applied in the states and municipalities of the northern border. This measure aims to unify the schedule throughout the national territory.
The elimination of daylight saving time consisted of moving the clock forward one hour to take better advantage of sunlight during the day. However, there are entities where this adjustment is still made at least twice a year. The border municipalities that will change their time on March 9th, starting at 2:00 AM, include Tijuana, Rosarito, Tecate, Ensenada, and Mexicali in Baja California, Coyame del Sotol and Manuel Benavides in Chihuahua, Acuña and Piedras Negras in Coahuila, as well as Nuevo Laredo and Matamoros in Tamaulipas, among others.
