In January 2025, the situation of insecurity in Morelos shows no improvement, with 108 reported intentional homicides, according to local media. Extortion, another crime that heavily impacts the population, remained at 25 cases in December 2024 and January 2025, but it is suspected that the actual number could be higher due to the lack of reports.
Amid this security crisis, the state also faces accusations of corruption. In February 2025, the Morelos Prosecutor's Office requested Congress to strip a government official of immunity to investigate him for an alleged crime, but there are attempts to delay legal actions against him.
The organization Dales Voz expressed concern over the attention that the local political class is giving to issues such as the decriminalization of abortion, sidelining the discussion on security and corruption. They believe this could be a strategy to divert attention from more pressing problems that directly affect citizens.
During 2024, there were 1,628 homicides reported in Morelos, an increase from the previous year, and femicides rose by 10%, from 45 cases in 2023 to 50 in 2024. Meanwhile, local deputies are seeking to decriminalize abortion before 12 weeks of gestation, which, according to Dales Voz, could serve as a political distraction amid the crisis of insecurity and corruption.
In this scenario, the organizations that make up Dales Voz emphasized the need to prioritize the resolution of urgent issues in Morelos, such as security, corruption, and impunity, instead of diverting attention to topics that divide society and act as a political smoke screen. They urge authorities to focus on resolving the problems that truly affect the quality of life of citizens, with the aim of achieving a safer, fairer, and more transparent state.
