The National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport (Conade) has been involved in a series of problems since Rommel Pacheco took over as head. Among the issues to be resolved are the payment of scholarships to athletes, the creation of a new Mexican Swimming Federation, and the existence of ongoing investigations.
Rommel Pacheco, referring to accusations against Conade, stated that there are ongoing investigations related to debts from the previous administration, with the Superior Audit Office of the Federation (ASF) and the Attorney General's Office (FGR) involved in these cases. Pacheco emphasized his commitment to transparency and focusing on supporting athletes.
In January, Rommel Pacheco mentioned in statements that investigations are underway concerning alleged irregularities in Conade. Additionally, he confirmed that there is an ongoing investigation by the ASF related to the previous management of Ana Guevara, which is continuing, and to which Pacheco is cooperating.
In February 2024, it was revealed that the ASF filed two complaints with the FGR for alleged irregularities in the Conade budget in 2020, totaling 283 million pesos. The audits pointed to a lack of accreditation for contracted services, such as cleaning, payroll payments to coaches, and the purchase of smartwatches, among others.
Journalist Arturo Ángel mentioned on a radio program that the ongoing investigations against the previous Conade management did not arise from third-party complaints but from internal observations made during the handover process of the administration. Pacheco stressed that his focus is on supporting athletes transparently and honestly, allowing the appropriate authorities to resolve the ongoing investigations.
