Mikel Arriola, president of Liga MX, was appointed as the representative of the Mexican Football Federation to FIFA, thus becoming the president of the governing body of football in Mexico. This decision was made following the resignation of Juan Carlos 'la Bomba' Rodríguez from the position of high commissioner of the FMF about three months ago, due to disagreements regarding the signing with an investment fund by some Mexican clubs.
In an official statement, it was specified that, according to the social statutes of the FMF, the Commissioner President has the authority to represent the Federation in various national and international instances, with Mikel Arriola being designated to exercise this representation internationally from this moment on.
In this way, Arriola officially assumes the leadership of the Football Federation, a position for which he was appointed as interim commissioner president in December, following the departure of Bomba Rodríguez. It has not yet been clarified whether Arriola will continue to perform his duties as president of Liga MX or if a replacement will be appointed to focus exclusively on his responsibilities in the Federation, especially in the lead-up to the 2026 World Cup.
On the other hand, the role that Ivar Sisniega will play remains in doubt, as he held the position of president of the Mexican Football Federation, since, according to the statement, his functions would be limited to the national level. Although not explicitly mentioned, it is emphasized that Mikel Arriola's work will be dedicated to relations with international organizations on behalf of the Federation.
