Drug Traffickers Captured in Rome

A man was arrested in Mexico while transporting liquid methamphetamine hidden in bottles of a well-known brand of mineral water. His attempt to remain unnoticed was thwarted when authorities discovered that the carbonated water contained no gas.

According to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), as part of the binational cooperation of Operation Northern Border, Mexican authorities in collaboration with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) managed to detain the individual and secure the shipment at the Roma International Bridge, Texas.

The operation involved elements of the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the Attorney General's Office (FGR), the National Guard (GN), and the SSPC. The arrested man was transporting the bottles of mineral water with liquid methamphetamine inside a truck.

During the inspection of the truck, which was carrying chilies, potatoes, onions, and bottles of what appeared to be mineral water from the brand Topo Chico to conceal the content, it was discovered that 1,632 bottles of carbonated water were empty of gas. Tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine, with a total weight of 1,028.98 kilos and an estimated value of 302.9 million pesos.

The truck driver was informed of the reason for his detention and, along with the secured goods, was handed over to U.S. authorities.
