A group of 36 U.S. lawmakers has sent a letter to President Donald Trump, requesting that he take strong measures to resolve a conflict between the Mexican government and Vulcan Materials Company. The letter points out that the company has been a victim of unfair treatment by Mexican authorities.
The origin of the conflict dates back to 2022, when Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador ordered military forces to invade the Vulcan facilities and shut down operations of its subsidiary Calica in Quintana Roo. Subsequently, the property of Vulcan was effectively expropriated, designating it as a protected natural area. This situation has disrupted the construction of infrastructure projects and jeopardized American jobs.
The lawmakers express their concern over the presence of individuals linked to the Chinese Communist Party at the Calica facilities. Therefore, they request President Trump to establish continuous monitoring in the Yucatán Peninsula, where the company is located.
In the letter, Trump is urged to demand Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to find a resolution favoring Vulcan Materials Company to reverse the actions taken during López Obrador's administration. The lawmakers also express concern about possible funding for the Maya Train project by the Chinese Communist Party.
Finally, U.S. senators show their willingness to support President Trump in his efforts to protect American businesses and hold Mexico accountable for the unfair treatment towards Sac-Tun (formerly Calica).
