The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) unanimously approved General Agreement 3/2025, which establishes the bases for the conclusion of roles of current ministers and the transfer of their positions, in compliance with the reform of the Judiciary. Published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on Monday, March 10, the agreement determines that as of August 31, 2025, the Chambers of the SCJN will be dissolved, and the constitutional term of the serving ministers will conclude.
Additionally, the number of members of the highest court in the country will be reduced. The Plenary and the Chambers of the SCJN will hold ordinary public sessions on different dates, with changes in their calendar to adapt to the new provisions. Until March 27, the Plenary will meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, while the Chambers will meet on Wednesdays. In April and May, the Plenary will meet on Mondays and Tuesdays.
In an official statement, it was mentioned that by August 28 at the latest, the SCJN will publish on its digital platform the complete list of pending matters to be resolved, as well as a labor report with the main results obtained by the presidency of the SCJN, which must be published before August 15, 2025.
This agreement represents the beginning of a new phase in the Judiciary, aligned with the reforms promoted by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which aim to restructure the justice system in Mexico.
From June to August 12, the Plenary will only meet on Tuesdays, while the Chambers will have public sessions every Wednesday until May 28, and then every 15 days until August 13. Regarding the assignment of matters, from April 16 to August 15, only urgent or preferential cases will be assigned.
