The Impeachment of Cuauhtémoc Blanco Begins

The process of impeachment against Cuauhtémoc Blanco, who is a deputy of Morena and former governor of Morelos, has begun. It has been communicated that both the complaining party and the legislator have a period of 30 days to present evidence related to the case. The information was disclosed by Raúl Bolaños Cacho-Cue on Monday, March 10, confirming the arrival of the complaint. According to Bolaños, the Instruction Section has the responsibility to carry out these processes in strict adherence to the law and rights, evaluating whether there are indications of guilt.

In cases like that of Cuauhtémoc Blanco, the process implies that both he and the Morelos Prosecutor's Office, which is accusing him, must present evidence within 30 days. The Instruction Section will then have 60 days to determine if there is sufficient evidence indicating the politician's guilt. Subsequently, the resolution will be forwarded to the full assembly of San Lázaro in case it is decided to proceed with the impeachment trial.

A relevant aspect is that the Morena coordinator in the Chamber of Deputies, Ricardo Monreal, has indicated that the party will not defend Cuauhtémoc Blanco if the accusations against him are confirmed and the Instruction Section proceeds with the impeachment trial.

Cuauhtémoc Blanco faces accusations of attempted rape against his half-sister, Nidia Fabiola, allegedly occurring in late 2023 when he was governor. Additionally, he is accused of alleged corruption related to an irregular payment to the Social Democratic Party of 7 million pesos. Despite these being the most prominent cases, the former prosecutor of Morelos, Uriel Carmona, suggests that there are at least 10 more files that could be used against him.

Blanco has expressed feeling "persecuted," stating that he will present an initiative for men to defend themselves against "false accusations." He claims to be calm in the face of the accusations and holds that "he who has nothing to hide, has nothing to fear." The law on the responsibilities of public servants establishes that once the process has begun, legal deadlines for the presentation of evidence begin to run. Although it was previously decided not to initiate the process, the Instruction Section has finally proceeded to notify Cuauhtémoc Blanco to present his evidence.
