Claudia Sheinbaum Defends Security Council Decision

President Claudia Sheinbaum defended during her morning conference the decision of the Security Council to send 29 members of drug trafficking to the United States without their approval. She explained that she was not present at the meeting where the decision was made, but stated that there was no violation of the powers of the Council members, including Alejandro Gertz Manero (FGR), Omar García Harfuch (SSPC), and Ricardo Trevilla (Defense). In her absence, Sheinbaum delegated responsibility and pointed out that the decision was legal, also supported by Gertz Manero, who presented the legal basis for the Council's action.

"Everything was legal," Gertz Manero stated. Sheinbaum clarified that it was not a gender issue, as interpreted in the media's questions. On February 27, the Mexican government sent 29 individuals deprived of their liberty in Mexico to the United States, including Rafael Caro Quintero, Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales (Z-40), and Óscar Omar Treviño Morales (Z-42), alleged former leaders of the drug cartel Los Zetas.

This action was carried out within the framework of bilateral coordination and respecting the sovereignty of both nations, shortly before the threat of imposing tariffs of 25% on Mexico by U.S. President Donald Trump.
