US Troops to Be Deployed at Mexico Border

More than 600 US soldiers will be deployed at the Mexico border to reinforce security. This follows a previous surge of military presence ordered by the Pentagon.

US Troops to Be Deployed at Mexico Border

More than 600 U.S. soldiers, including engineers and intelligence agents, will be deployed to the border with Mexico, according to the U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM). With this latest deployment, the total number of U.S. soldiers at the border with Mexico is nearing 9,600 personnel.

The group will include "40 intelligence analysts from the Air Force and approximately 590 engineers from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers." This announcement follows the decision made in mid-January by the Pentagon to send 1,500 active-duty military personnel, along with air and intelligence support, following President Donald Trump's executive order declaring a national emergency at the southern border.

"Reinforcing security at the southern border" of the country is the objective of this measure.
