Former Cruz Azul player, Rafael Baca, has won the lawsuit against the club following his controversial exit in 2023. Baca, key in securing the "Ninth" Liga MX title, will receive a substantial compensation for an illegal termination. Although the final amount will be less than initially requested, Cruz Azul will have to pay him 300 thousand dollars.
The story dates back to June 2023, when Baca was unexpectedly separated from the team with six months left on his contract. After an unfavorable first instance, the player went to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) seeking justice, which ultimately ruled in his favor. Despite the differences, Baca thanked Cruz Azul in a video shared on social media, leaving the door open for a future reconciliation.
"Thank you for all those years of support, resilience, courage, and drive to achieve the goal: the Ninth," Baca expressed, showing gratitude to partners, collaborators, and the blue fans. Despite the scandals surrounding Cruz Azul in recent times, the resolution of this case marked a milestone in the club's recent history.
