Gerardo Fernández Noroña, who presides over the Senate Board, settled the controversy with Senator Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas by calling him "a big fool," but opened a new one, this time more humorous, with the PAN member Marko Cortés. Before the session on Wednesday, Moreno Cárdenas attacked Noroña, labeling him as "a cheerleader, clown, ridiculous, vile buffoon, lackey, and hindrance." The PRI senator stated that many of Noroña's colleagues had expressed supportive messages for calling him that, as they lacked the courage to do so.
Moreno Cárdenas raised the tone of his statements by calling Noroña "a big fool," and promised to continue using that term whenever he had the chance. Noroña responded to these accusations calmly, stating that he does not feel intimidated by such language coming from a popular colony, but highlighted that belonging to the PRI reflects the lack of respect and rudeness that party represents.
Regarding the exchange with Marko Cortés, Noroña showed off a pair of socks with the image of Uncle Sam and joked about gifting them to the PAN member, which generated a response from Cortés regarding the cleanliness of Noroña's shoes. Fernández Noroña considered this episode closed for him.
Subsequently, in a press conference, Gerardo Fernández Noroña continued his criticisms, accusing Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas of weakening the PRI during his leadership. Noroña mentioned the losses of state governments, senators, and deputies that the PRI has suffered under "Alito's" mandate, emphasizing the significant reduction in votes and party members during his tenure.
Finally, Noroña concluded that Moreno Cárdenas' actions have led the PRI to a notable weakening, evidenced by the decrease in all levels of political representation of the party.
