Electoral Court dismisses complaint against ministers

The Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary dismissed the complaint regarding early campaign actions against ministers Yasmín Esquivel, Lenia Batres, and Loretta Ortiz, for the use of public resources for electoral purposes and the employment of personalized propaganda, by a majority of votes. Based on the reported events and the evidence provided, it was not possible to find indications that 'presuppose' the fact in an evident manner, determined the highest tribunal.

During the session this Wednesday, the Electoral Tribunal, by majority of votes, revoked the agreement of the General Council of the National Electoral Institute to determine the campaign spending limits for candidates to judges in the judicial election. Magistrate Reyes Mondragón determined that the personal campaign spending limit must be adjusted according to each type of election, considering the position, electorate, and territoriality of the election.

The rules establish that if the maximum campaign spending limit for the judicial election is calculated based on the amount that can be individually contributed to the independent candidacies for federal deputy positions, that base must be adjusted for each type of election.

On the other hand, in the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, the session was suspended due to the lack of the necessary legal quorum to continue and discuss 36 pending matters to be resolved. This occurred because Minister Lenia Batres decided to leave the session immediately after the other members of the Chamber expressed that she is prevented from participating in the resolution of amparo review 492/2023.
