Approval for Sheinbaum Amidst Tariff Tensions

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has gained the support of the majority of citizens in her management of the relationship with the United States during Donald Trump's imposition of tariffs. After a phone conversation between both leaders, it was agreed to postpone the application of the tariffs until April 2.

The results of a survey revealed that 74% of respondents consider Sheinbaum's performance in the Mexico-United States relationship to be good or very good, while 79% are aware of Trump's imposition of tariffs on March 4, indicating a high level of interest in the issue.

Unlike Canada, which reacted immediately by imposing tariffs in response to Trump's measure, the Mexican government opted for a strategy of waiting and negotiation, supported by 67% of the respondents.

Trump has used tariffs as a tool of commercial pressure, and the majority of respondents prefer the Mexican strategy compared to that of Canada. Regarding the economic impact of the tariffs, opinions are divided, with 38% believing it will affect the United States more and 37% considering it will harm Mexico more.

This support for Sheinbaum comes at a crucial moment, as she is in the midst of trade tensions with the United States. With tariffs suspended until April, the unknown lies in whether the president can avoid their definitive application or if an inevitable trade battle is looming.
