PRI-PAN Coalition Strengthens in Nuevo León

The leader of the PAN in Nuevo León reaffirms the alliance with the PRI in support of Adrián de la Garza, despite the tension in the opposition against Morena.

PRI-PAN Coalition Strengthens in Nuevo León

Paco Cienfuegos, one of the members of the hard-right wing of the PAN party who has supporters in several regions, mentioned that Adrián de la Garza is the most solid figure to lead the coalition in Nuevo León and that a mutual sensitivity with the PAN should be maintained. The tricolor leader, Jose Luis Garza Ochoa, requested to maintain the union of both political parties, which led the PAN in the region to agree to strengthen cooperation and support De la Garza's project.

According to Cienfuegos, the polls show no possible victory for either the PRI or the PAN separately in 2027, reinforcing the idea that the coalition is necessary to compete with Morena. This stance has prevailed in Nuevo León, where some PAN sectors advocate for a strategic relationship with the PRI only under specific circumstances that benefit both parties and harm Morena.

De la Garza, for his part, has maintained a cautious stance toward the PAN, avoiding tours with legislators from that party, missing key events, and being less visible in areas of the capital that traditionally support the PAN, despite being in those areas where he garnered support in previous elections. This distancing has created tensions in the opposition, as facing Morena jointly is presented as a complex challenge given the considerable electoral advantage that party maintains.

In this context, Policarpo Flores, state leader and spokesperson for Raúl Gracia, expressed his displeasure and even mentioned approaches from the PAN with senator Luis Donaldo Colosio to nominate him as a candidate for the governorship. The situation reflects the delicate political landscape in Nuevo León, where the coalition between the PRI and the PAN seeks to establish itself as a viable alternative against the ruling party.
