The spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office, Liz Throssell, issued a statement regarding the discovery of human remains at the Izaguirre ranch in Teuchitlán, Jalisco, allegedly operated by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
Throssell described this finding as disturbing, recalling the tragedy of disappearances related to organized crime in Mexico. The ranch was used to train young recruits with false job offers, who suffered abuses and, if they did not meet the cartel's requirements, were killed.
The site had been previously raided in 2024 without finding crucial evidence, which raises further concern about the current situation. The UN DH called for thorough and independent investigations into the crimes committed at the ranch, thus strengthening the identification of the remains found.
Additionally, there was a call to allow meaningful participation of families in the processes of searching, investigating, and accountability. The Mexican Government was urged to improve preventive measures and provide protection and support to families affected by disappearances in their search for truth, justice, and reparation.
