Allegations of corruption have emerged involving former officials and the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Investigations are called for amidst claims of criminal ties and misuse of funds, raising questions about political integrity.

Corruption Allegations Against Mexican Officials

A complaint filed with the Secretariat of Public Administration in 2021 involves alleged acts of corruption related to the diversion of resources from the Wellbeing cards intended for senior citizens. The complainant accuses the "superdelegate" of asking her to hand over the cards to supposedly appropriate the money. The former Secretary of Public Administration confirmed that this was not the first complaint of this kind and was later dismissed.

María Idalia Gómez, a journalist, pointed out that, despite the complaint being filed, a more in-depth investigation is needed. She emphasized the political implications of the use of the U.S. Department of Justice during Donald Trump's administration. Gómez stressed that corruption must be investigated regardless of these circumstances.

Anabel Hernández revealed a criminal complaint filed in the United States in December 2024 against former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for alleged links with organized crime. The complaint also includes several other Mexican politicians. The accusation suggests a relationship between López Obrador and the Sinaloa Cartel, among other criminal groups, according to an extensive complaint submitted to federal prosecutors in New York.

The complaint comes amid accusations from the United States about the collaboration of politicians with criminal organizations and Trump's demands on Mexico regarding security issues. Close associates of criminal figures are also reportedly giving statements collaborating with the U.S. government.

The complaint alleges that the private company has obtained information indicating possible crimes. Testimonies, including one from a former Wellbeing official, implicate alleged acts of corruption and abuses. The witness detailed pressures to commit illegal acts and reported harassment and political violence.

The testimonies have been part of a complaint filed against López Obrador and state officials, Hernández revealed. The witness mentioned the alleged involvement of López Beltrán in the movement of resources from the Sinaloa Cartel during the 2018 elections. The testimonies include details of resource deliveries and compromising conversations.
