Ricardo Monreal, the coordinator of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, announced that all pending matters in San Lázaro will be resolved before the end of the Legislature in April. He denied that the issue of Cuauhtémoc Blanco's immunity being archived was true.
In a press conference, Monreal assured that the immunity of the former governor of Morelos will not be left in suspense and will be addressed according to established procedures. He explained that the committees have a deadline of 60 days to determine the case after receiving the files from the Morelos Prosecutor's Office regarding Cuauhtémoc Blanco.
"Cuauhtémoc Blanco's immunity will not be overlooked," Monreal stated. He detailed that once the review is completed, the law indicates that the elements must be specified so that the full Chamber can ultimately decide on the immunity.
Regarding the reason for the immunity request, the Morelos Justice Prosecutor's Office presented in February a request for immunity against Cuauhtémoc Blanco for attempted rape. The evidence presented by the victim, identified as his half-sister, suggests the commission of the crime by the former governor.
The victim reported that in 2023, at a residence assigned to governors, Cuauhtémoc Blanco attempted to sexually assault her. She explained that while resting, he knocked on her door after receiving guests at the residence.
Monreal clarified that the immunity process will continue even after the Legislature ends in April. He did not rule out the possibility of calling for an extraordinary session in the Chamber of Deputies to address the issue of Cuauhtémoc Blanco's immunity if necessary.
