Controversy Surrounds Cast Changes for 'Shrek 5'

Alfonso Obregón, who provided the voice for the character of Shrek in Spanish, expressed in an interview his uncertainty about his participation in the next installment of the saga. After his recent release, following accusations of sexual abuse, Obregón shared his conditions for returning to the movie.

In an interview with the YouTube channel Jeffar Vlogs, the actor commented that he hopes to be properly compensated for his work and that his contribution is recognized each time the movie is aired in Spanish. Additionally, he wants his name to be announced as part of the cast. So far, it has not been confirmed whether these demands will be accepted by Dreamworks, the movie's producer.

The controversy arose when Alfonso Obregón and comedian Eugenio Derbez, who portrayed Shrek and Donkey respectively in Spanish, hinted on social media that they might be excluded from the new installment of the franchise. While the English dubbing is expected to include the original actors from the series, the situation in Spanish is uncertain.

Derbez recently mentioned in a podcast that he was in discussions to return to the movie, but expressed concern about the absence of former collaborators at Dreamworks. The actor insisted on his interest in having the freedom to adapt the dialogues as he sees fit. Despite the speculation, there is still time before the movie's premiere, scheduled for December 2026. The landscape may change in the coming months.
