Oaxaca Government Delivers Visas to Migrants

The State Government delivered 259 visas and passports as part of the Gozona Familiar program, aimed at older individuals and bi-national children. The goal is to reunite families who have been separated for at least 15 years due to their immigration status. Governor Salomón Jara Cruz stated that this project strengthens the sense of belonging of migrants to their communities.

In the governor's words, "We call it Gozona Familiar because families reunite, share time together, and stay for at least a few days with them." He expressed gratitude to migrant brothers and sisters for their remittances that contribute to the development of their families and communities. Pedro Méndez Martínez, a beneficiary of the previous program, thanked the Government for allowing him to reunite with his children after 25 years.

During the symbolic delivery, visas were granted to three individuals from different localities and passports to three children. In light of the current immigration situation in the United States, the opening of offices in Tijuana, Baja California, and Los Angeles, California was announced to provide advice and services to Oaxacan migrants.

The undersecretary of Migration and Population emphasized the importance of valuing family and maintaining ties to roots, while the director of Migration highlighted that the program is completely free. These actions reinforce the commitment of the Government of the Oaxacan Spring to support migrant communities in their development and access to opportunities.
