Sheinbaum stated that the Digital Transformation Agency acted swiftly to address the situation once they became aware of the hack.

Sheinbaum acknowledged the report from The New York Times that mentioned the hack of her phone shortly after the criminals were delivered to the United States; however, the leader clarified that they do not know who is responsible and that they are investigating the case. Although the Mexican president revealed that her personal phone number had already been leaked in February 2024, when she was a presidential candidate.

In February, Mexican authorities unusually transferred 29 people who were in penitentiary centers in Mexico to the United States, including drug lords like Rafael Caro Quintero and leaders of Los Zetas, Miguel Ángel and Omar Treviño Morales. Sheinbaum explained that she kept the hacked number out of affection, as it was gifted to her by the current governor of the state of Campeche, Layda Sansores, in 2008.
