
In Apaseo el Alto, on February 27, 2025, a violent attack occurred at the San Fernando Sports Center, resulting in the deaths of two women and leaving 14 people injured. On the same day, in the municipality of Valle de Santiago, three men lost their lives at the hands of armed individuals at a home near the La Alberca crater. Additionally, two municipal police officers and one civilian were shot dead in this context.
On March 6, 2025, a group of people attending a wake at the cemetery in the community of San José Agua Azul, in Apaseo el Grande, were targeted in a shooting attack. Ambulances arrived on the scene to assist the injured and transport them to medical centers; however, no arrests were reported, and no information was provided regarding the motivations behind the aggression.
These incidents add to a series of massacres that have taken place in Guanajuato throughout 2025. One of them occurred in Salamanca, where seven people lost their lives in San José de Mendoza. Another massacre took place in Irapuato on February 19, when a group attending a wake was shot at.
Over the weekend in San José de Mendoza, Salamanca, an armed command intruded into the community's multi-purpose courts, shooting at players and spectators, including minors. The attack resulted in seven fatalities and five injuries, generating panic in an environment that initially promoted sports activity and social interaction.
In a context marked by violence, witnesses described scenes of terror in which the assailants fired indiscriminately at those present. Two women lost their lives at the scene, and twelve other people were injured. The rapid intervention of authorities allowed the injured to be transported to medical centers for necessary care.
