Land Dispossession in Teuchitlán Generates Crisis

In the ejido La Estanzuela of Teuchitlán, Jalisco, residents have reported that in 2012 the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) dispossessed the owner of the land where a training center was found, where allegedly 1,500 people had been killed. The owner, known as Don Gerardo Ramírez to protect his identity, ceded the Izaguirre ranch to the CJNG members after they violently barged into his home and threatened to harm his daughter if he did not agree to sell the parcel.

Local residents report that Don Gerardo was forced to sell his land after the invaders threatened him, despite retaining the property papers and the land certificate. Although the men who negotiated with him were unarmed, the tone and attitude with which they addressed Don Gerardo left him with no options but to sell.

After the forced sale, the CJNG proceeded to build a perimeter wall around parcel number 446 and erected a gate with the inscription "Izaguirre Ranch." The ranch occupied one hectare and was completely enclosed by three-meter-high walls. Later, in 2012, it became the training and extermination center for the criminal group, where burned human remains were discovered.

Despite the fact that in 2025 the site went from being ejidal property to private property and appeared registered in the Teuchitlán cadastre, the necessary procedures and documentation to formalize the change were not carried out. Don Genaro, the original owner, was surprised to discover that he had to pay taxes on the parcel, which indicated that the property had been transferred to private hands.

Thus, the Izaguirre ranch, which at one time was a place of terror and violence, passed into the hands of unknown individuals, without clarifying who was responsible for its acquisition. The residents of La Estanzuela continue to remember the events that led to the dispossession of Don Gerardo's land and the transformation of the place into a site marked by the presence of the CJNG.
