An official from the Subsecretariat of Transit Control, part of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) of Mexico City, managed to repel the aggression of an individual identified as the probable perpetrator of an assault on a pedestrian, detaining him in possession of a firearm on the streets of the Iztapalapa municipality.
The events took place during the weekend while the police officer was conducting traffic supervision rounds in the CTM Culhuacán neighborhood. At that moment, he observed a man on a blue motorcycle threatening a citizen with a firearm, stripping him of his belongings on Santa Ana Avenue and Eje 3 Oriente. Upon noticing the presence of the officer, the aggressor fled the scene. After a brief motorcycle chase, he skidded and continued fleeing on foot.
While being pursued by the officer, the criminal fired at him. To protect his life, the police officer responded to the attack, injuring the aggressor in the abdomen. Subsequently, the 35-year-old individual was detained, and medical assistance was requested for him. The paramedics who attended to him diagnosed a gunshot wound to the left abdomen, and he was transferred under police custody to a hospital for specialized care.
After conducting a security review according to police protocols, a firearm, a magazine with nine rounds, a cell phone, and cash identified by the victim, a 24-year-old man, as his were seized. The confiscated items were handed over to the Public Ministry for investigation.
The 29-year-old police officer was presented to the ministerial authorities to give his statement. The General Directorate of Internal Affairs has been notified of the events and is collaborating in the integration of the investigation file to clarify the case.
