Arrest of 'El Veterano', Mara Salvatrucha Member in Baxtla

Mexican security forces captured Francisco Javier 'N', alias 'El Veterano', a member of Mara Salvatrucha, wanted by the FBI. He faces serious charges including conspiracy and human trafficking.

In a joint operation, Mexican security forces detained Francisco Javier “N”, alias "El Veterano" and a member of the Mara Salvatrucha, a Salvadoran included in the list of the 10 most wanted fugitives by the FBI, in the locality of Baxtla. The capture was the result of intelligence work and international cooperation between the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the Attorney General's Office (FGR), the National Guard (GN), and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).

The detained individual was wanted for crimes of conspiracy to provide material support and resources to terrorists, narcoterrorism conspiracy, organized crime, and human trafficking. Intelligence reports indicate that Francisco Javier “N” is a member of a Salvadoran criminal organization with international operations.

After locating his area of movement in Baxtla, authorities deployed surveillance operations until intercepting him on the Teocelo-Baxtla highway. Once his identity was confirmed, he was arrested, his rights were read to him, and he will be transferred to Mexico City for deportation to the United States.

Authorities emphasized that this detention is part of the National Security Strategy to combat generators of violence in the country. In October 2022, the FGR requested the collaboration of the National Institute of Migration (INM), and the Secretariat of the Interior issued a migration alert in the name of Francisco Javier “N”. As there was an arrest warrant against him issued by a district judge for his probable involvement in acts of organized crime. This was done in order to verify, register, and inform the respective authorities about the entry-exit movements of “El Veterano” through international transit points.
