President Claudia Sheinbaum, during a routine press conference, expressed her concern about a "dirty campaign" that she has detected on social media. Sheinbaum's team warned about the presence of bot accounts that are trying to artificially promote the Teuchitlán case in Jalisco. It was reported that this campaign is being funded with resources of unknown origin.
Sheinbaum linked this strategy to the opposition and pointed out that nearly half of the publications were related to support for candidates from the PRI and PAN for the 2024 elections. On the other hand, the presence of hashtags like #NarcoExPresidentAMLO and #NarcoPresidentaClaudia in thousands of accounts that also focused on the Teuchitlán case was mentioned.
Deputy Gerardo Fernández Noroña joined the criticism, accusing the opposition of conducting a "scavenger campaign" around the Teuchitlán case. Sheinbaum described this strategy as a baseless campaign aimed at discrediting. She emphasized the existence of bot accounts used to inflate trends at an estimated cost of 20 million pesos in four days.
Amid this controversy, Sheinbaum met with the governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus, to address the situation. Approximately 87,866 bot accounts were identified that generated nearly a million posts related to the Teuchitlán issue. Authorities requested the intervention of prosecutors to thoroughly investigate these campaigns and clarify their origin and funding.
