No Trial for Disqualification Against Cuauhtémoc Blanco

On March 6, the Instruction Section of the Chamber of Deputies of the Congress of the Union decided not to proceed with the impeachment trial against former governor of Morelos, Cuauhtémoc Blanco Bravo, who faces accusations of attempted rape. In a video shared by journalist Laura Brugés, Blanco avoided answering media questions about the case, reaffirming that he would not grant any more interviews on the matter. In it, he stated that his conscience was clear and that he would defend himself against the accusations as firmly as possible.

The majority of legislators from the ruling party voted against initiating the impeachment process, allowing Blanco to maintain his immunity, thus generating controversy over the justice of the case. This issue has been marked by several delays and questions regarding the transparency of the process. Blanco alleged that he had filed a complaint for extortion against the complainant at the time, which, according to him, would discredit the accusations against him.

In his statements, PAN deputy Germán Martínez expressed his concern over the lack of thorough and detailed analysis of the documents related to the case. Martínez was the only legislator in favor of starting the impeachment process, calling for a deep review, without delays and with transparency. On the other hand, the Attorney General's Office of Morelos presented the documentation confirming the competence and authority of the Chamber of Deputies to proceed with the trial of origin.

Cuauhtémoc Blanco has reiterated his innocence and denied any link to the complainant, his half-sister, Nidia Fabiola, who accused him of the assault. Regarding Martínez's comments on the case, he said: “Definitely whether they admit it and have the cowardice to not present a report of whether it is dismissed, they also shy away from dismissing it, well because if they dismiss it, they know we will take it to the full session. Sorry, let’s see the mistakes they have been making, and God willing, it will come out in our favor. My conscience is very clear, and I am going to defend myself.”
