PT's Political Maneuvering Ahead of 2027 Elections

Deputy Reginaldo Sandoval expresses PT's frustration with Morena, announcing that the party will compete alone in the 2027 elections in several states.

PT's Political Maneuvering Ahead of 2027 Elections

Deputy Reginaldo Sandoval expressed the annoyance of the Labor Party (PT) towards Morena, with which he led Andrés Manuel López Obrador to the presidency of Mexico in 2018. A year later, in 2019, they joined the successful coalition Together We Make History alongside the Green Party to win elections at different levels.

The PT presents itself as an alternative against Morena's prohibition for the Monreal, influential members of Morena, to bypass it. In Tlaxcala, the party led by Beto Anaya plans to compete not only for the governorship in 2027 independently from Morena, but also considers an alliance with the PAN to the detriment of the current Morena governor.

On the other hand, in Veracruz, the PT decided to break its alliance with the 4T. Meanwhile, in Baja California, former Morena governor Jaime Bonilla announced that the PT will compete alone in the 2027 elections, facing the forces of Morena.

According to Deputy Reginaldo Sandoval, there is a certain stubbornness and arrogance on the part of Morena, which could lead the PT to end up competing alone in elections. This decision is reinforced by the PT's intention to be the option for those who were not nominated by Morena and amidst an election where there are no restrictions on reelection or nepotism, unlike what is promoted by Claudia Sheinbaum.

This scenario is reflected in different states such as Veracruz and Zacatecas, where the lists of candidates are disputed among various groups. Tension remains latent in Zacatecas, where it has been confirmed that the PT will also seek to compete alone in the 2027 elections.

Recently, the Labor Party recalled its history of rebellion against the system and, although it acknowledges that its voting was not enough, it highlights a 404% growth that allowed it to obtain a deputy position and six councilors in Baja California.
