Enforced Disappearances: A National Problem

The local deputy of Morena in Tamaulipas, Eva Araceli Reyes González, emphasized that forced disappearance is a phenomenon that occurs not only at the national level but also internationally for years. She highlighted that not only in Tamaulipas or Teuchitlán, but also in states like the State of Mexico, Michoacán, Sinaloa, Veracruz, Sonora, and Jalisco, clandestine graves have been found, with the most recent case being the Izaguirre ranch in Jalisco.

In this context, the legislator mentioned that the practices of organized crime, such as the disappearance of remains, are deeply rooted and seek to obstruct investigations or send messages in their surroundings. Eva Araceli Reyes stressed that the issues of clandestine graves and forced disappearances have not stopped in Mexico, as they are just beginning to be addressed more thoroughly.

When addressing the situation of extermination and training camps in Mexico, as well as clandestine graves, the deputy mentioned that it is important not only to work on the search for the disappeared but also to provide support to the groups of searchers. She highlighted the importance of attending to the indirect victims of disappearances and the need to create strategies such as regulations and courses for the groups, as well as psychological support for the affected families.

In this regard, Eva Araceli Reyes González considered the number of clandestine graves registered in Tamaulipas to be alarming, mentioning that it is "almost natural" given the circumstances in the area. She stressed the importance of civil society getting involved in the search for solutions and expressed optimism about the possibility that Tamaulipas could be a reference in the implementation of measures to address this issue at the local level.
