President Claudia Sheinbaum led her 'morning' conference on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, where she explained the secondary laws that came into effect in the energy sector. Electoral ballots for the Judicial election were also presented. On this occasion, Sheinbaum will send a presidential decree for ISSSTE workers, focusing on benefiting teachers.
In a meeting with teachers from the National Coordinator, Sheinbaum announced the withdrawal of the initiative to reform the ISSSTE Law and presented proposals such as the withdrawal of the reform, a debt forgiveness program for FOVISSSTE, freezing the minimum retirement age, and organizing forums to build an alternative proposal for the income and promotion of teachers.
In response to criticisms regarding initiatives to strengthen the search for missing persons, Sheinbaum assured that there will be coordination between the Attorney General's Office and state prosecutors. Regarding the criticisms from collectives and Senator Ricardo Anaya, the president stated that the goal is to strengthen search mechanisms.
Sheinbaum explained that the withdrawal of the reform to the ISSSTE Law was due to requests and criticisms from teachers with whom she held a meeting. The decision was made to avoid confusion, ensuring benefits like those from FOVISSSTE. The president reiterated the willingness to engage in dialogue and recalled that these demands were historic on the part of teachers.
Regarding changes in Pemex and CFE with the secondary laws in the energy sector, Energy Secretary Luz Elena González detailed that 8 laws have been implemented for this sector, aiming to recover the vocation of public state enterprises and establish austerity policies aligned with planning. It is highlighted that the activities of these entities will no longer be considered monopolistic.
