The National Institute of Transparency in Mexico will cease its operations, which could affect access to information and citizens' rights. The Chamber of Deputies will discuss secondary laws that will change its functioning.


End of INAI and Its Impact on Transparency

Commissioner Blanca Lilia Ibarra Martínez thanked the INAI community, partner institutions, civil society organizations, academia, counterparts from states and globally, as well as the journalistic, business community, and media, highlighting El Financiero for opening an institutional space to disseminate her work and the importance of the rights that INAI protects.

Since her appointment in April 2018, the commissioner has worked with determination and commitment to strengthen a solid and cutting-edge institution, fulfilling the protection of access to information rights and personal data protection for Mexican citizens. With a guarantee-focused vision and adherence to the law, she has faced various challenges and challenges during her tenure.

The commissioner’s work will culminate with the end of the institution from which she has served her country, recognizing that the guarantee of the rights she safeguards is fundamental for the strengthening of society. Ibarra Martínez reiterated her commitment to the protection of human rights and democratic values, inviting others to follow her work on social media and her personal website.

The Chamber of Deputies will begin discussing the secondary laws this week, through which the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information, and Personal Data Protection will cease to exist. The commissioner expressed her desire for this new scheme to contribute to consolidating the exercise and utilization of the prerogatives to improve the quality of life for all people in Mexico.
