Trump Discusses Border Security and Collaboration with Mexico

Trump praised the relationship he has with the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, highlighting her quality. He expressed his desire to collaborate and help the Mexican country, emphasizing the importance of security at the shared border. Trump pointed out that the cartels have experienced a decrease in their income due to the strengthening of security at the border.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump mentioned the possibility of providing economic aid and plane tickets to undocumented migrants to leave the United States, stating that his government would be willing to collaborate with those who return legally. On the other hand, President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed reports about the intention of the United States, under Trump's administration, to build a new military base at the border.

Sheinbaum assured that this base would be built on the U.S. side of the border, without transgressing Mexican sovereignty, adding that Mexico has sent a diplomatic note regarding this. The president explained that they are unaware of the specific activities that would take place at this base, but they would relate to the border security measures announced by Trump against illegal migration and drug trafficking, mainly fentanyl.

In a different context, Trump stated that Mexico is concerned about the presence and activity of drug cartels in its territory. He highlighted the joint effort that his administration is making with Sheinbaum's government on this issue, although he also mentioned that a large part of Mexican territory is controlled by the cartels, thus showing his interest in collaborating on border security and the fight against drug trafficking.
